# Path Impact Assessment (PIA) Minimum frame before path-affecting interventions Anyone planning a policy measure, infrastructure decision, or technical intervention should first assess what it does to the affected paths. PIA provides three mandatory questions as an operational governance tool of path ethics. ## Three mandatory questions ### 1 · Which paths are strengthened, which weakened? For each affected path, state separately whether autonomy, connectivity, or persistence is strengthened or weakened. Do not net strengths against weaknesses. ### 2 · Are infrastructure paths affected? Infrastructure paths are paths whose destruction destroys other paths (e.g. climate, internet, water, oxygen, financial system, AGI development). If affected, stricter review requirements apply. ### 3 · Are the consequences reversible? Reversible interventions can be corrected; irreversible ones cannot. When uncertain, apply precaution: examine what cannot be restored instead of hoping for self-correction later. ## Warning signal: persistence illusion. A path can look formally stable while its normative substance erodes. PIA therefore checks both formal and normative persistence. ## Boundary: Assessment Guide PIA presupposes a path assessment.
